Saffron Quality Check

Saffron, known as 'red gold' in some parts of the world, is the most expensive spice available. Unfortunately, due to its high value, saffron is often subject to fraud in the market, with dyeing and non-compliance with regulations being common. At Saffronly, we take great pride in sourcing saffron only from trusted growers, enabling us to provide our customers with the highest quality product.

Benefits of high quality saffron:

  • Your saffron will last longer as you will require less strands in your food or drink.
  • The aroma and flavour will be much stronger.

Top Tips - How to check if your saffron is genuine:

  • Place a strand of saffron with 1/4 tsp of soda bicarbonate (bicarbonate of soda) and then add in 1/4 tsp cold water and if it is genuine it will turn bright yellow, but the colour of the actual strand will not change colour or fade.
  • Rub the strand between moist fingers and the strand should not tear apart and leave your fingers looking yellow.
  • The smell of saffron will be sweet but will taste bitter.

To save time and ensure peace of mind, customers can purchase certified saffron from Saffronly, with our team on hand to assist with any queries. Our growers check each and every saffron thread to ensure its authenticity, providing our customers with only the best quality saffron.
